Science specialists will direct research on board the ship. Science officers will be called upon to investigate anomalies in space, to help analyze opponent capabilities during combat, and to examine alien life or unknown objects.

Science officers may also choose to serve as medics, which specialize in accompanying away missions. On an away missions, the medic will repair wounds, and work to keep the teams disease free.
