An ancient race dedicated to artistry, and spirituality, the Bajorans have been technologically advanced far longer than most species currently active in the galaxy.

Because of their focus on art and religion, their technology did not advance as rapidly as other races. Although not inherently violent, the long struggle of the Bajoran people has taught them extreme resilience, and honed the skills of many at guerilla warfare.

The technologically superior and militaristic species, the Cardassians, occupied Bajor, and enslaved the people. After years of resistance, they were able to drive the Cardassians from their planet. They immediately requested Federation assistance, and began taking the steps toward membership.
